Meet Toriyamagucci

Twenty three year old Toriyamagucci is a new York native turned dmv resident. Not only is he brains (finishing up his college degree and wanting to pursue a bachelors in the science field) he also is pursuing his craft of DJing. As an artist Tori described his music as dark. “I feel like I’m speaking for the people that don’t have a voice to speak out for themselves, I guess the outcasts is who I’m speaking for. And I would also say I try to paint stories as a artist, and make someone feel the emotions in my song and the energy behind it.”

Being an early teen channeling his inner craft, he grew interest in metal music and taking things from skateboarding and incorporating it into his work from the “early 2000’s punk metal scene” as he describes it. Hip hop on the other hand started to stick around the age of 18 where he then realized that he could mesh the two together. He had a great mentor who really shaped him and was very impactful on who is he today. Her name, Salamander and she paved the way for Tori as an artist. She gave him his first opportunity to perform at a show and opened him into the impulse collective. Salamander has recently passed away, and was such a huge influence to Tori, that he makes sure to pay tribute to her by wearing her hat at every show to remind himself of how far he's come with her help. On music side Tori pulls inspiration from underground artists such as Xavier Wulf, Bones, Chris Travis and “that down south Memphis style of rap” he says. Outside of our standard “western culture” (as many would put it) music, he also veers out into a lot of UK hip hop callled Grime. Grime sheds a light on daily struggles and rough upbringing, something Tori can relate too. He talked about bringing awareness to depression, trauma and giving people a voice when they have no one to turn too. As a firm believer that music brings people together, Tori hopes to spread his messages and help people escape reality through his music. In the near future you all can expect a shift in Tori's music and more production of beats, he is thriving to be as versatile as possible wanting to be a "multi-genre" artist. He also speaks on collaborating with other big talents in the DMV such as Confromthe703, Gxldie and The Coupe! He’s also laid out his five year plan with DJing and strives to grow his fan base, release more music consistently and he even has plans to one day DJ at Echostage and traveling to play in different countries!
